Peru's Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca has reported that more than 295,000 teachers have already been inoculated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and that over 80,000 have received the two doses.

Ministry of Education (Minedu) explained that some teachers have been inoculated because they participated in the immunization drive aimed at rural teachers, while others —most of them— were within the age group eligible for vaccination.
After getting the second dose at the vaccination center set up at Manuel Bonilla Stadium in Lima's Miraflores district, Cuenca pointed out that the average age of female teachers is 47 and of males is 46.
According to the government official, most teachers will have been immunized by the end of the Vaccinathon scheduled for this weekend.
"Without a doubt, the fact that most teachers will be vaccinated allows us to speed up the return to (face-to-face) classes in adequate biosafety conditions and to get better news in the second half of the year," he indicated.
