The Ministry of Interior (Mininter), through the National Police of Peru (PNP), has managed to seize 23.5 tons of drugs in 5,351 operations conducted against drug mafias over the past 100 days in office.

From February to date, the operations carried out by the Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) —after intelligence work— have dismantled 33 criminal organizations and arrested 3,984 people dedicated to illicit drug trafficking, which strike a major blow against these criminal groups.

The intensification of drug interdiction activities is among the guidelines encouraged by the Interior Ministry to fight drug trafficking.

These intensified efforts have resulted in the destruction of 184 clandestine laboratories, 331 maceration pits, and six clandestine landing strips.

Concerning the work carried out to reduce illegal coca growing areas, the Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) has put in place various interventions in operation areas across Aguaytia (Ucayali), San Gaban (Puno), and Tingo Maria (Huanuco).

As a result of those interventions, CORAH has eradicated 5,829.14 hectares of illegal coca leaf crops.

Crime and organized crime

Following the Ministry's policies to combat common crime and organized crime, the National Police has captured 70,432 criminals in 213,417 operations carried out nationwide from February 1 to date.

Moreover, 17,675 criminals who were facing arrest warrants were also captured by the PNP and were immediately brought to justice.
