13:12 | Nuremberg (Germany), Feb. 16.

Over 100 Peruvian businessmen convene at Biofach 2017 —the world's leading trade fair for Organic Food taking place on 15-18 February in Nuremberg (Germany)— to promote products like quinoa, maca and sacha inchi, as well as exhibit new exportable potentialities.

During the opening ceremony of the Peru stall, Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade Edgar Vasquez said Biofach has a big impact on participating small and medium-sized enterprises, which hold certifications required by the European market, such as Fairtrade and organic certification.

For this edition, Peru will launch new products like a bar of chocolate from Piura, Cusco and San Martin regions; sacha inchi protein powder; nuts and fruits powder; cake premixes; organic purple corn snacks; maca and quinoa crisps; as well as organic fruit purees for babies and organic cocoa honey.

The Peruvian delegation expects to generate US$65 million in business deals.

Peruvian organic food exports totaled US$380 million in 2016, with an average growth rate of 19.6% over the last five years.

The principal products are bananas, cocoa, quinoa, coffee and ginger. Chia, aguaymanto, ginger and camu camu stood out among the most dynamic.

The most demanding markets were the United States (US$133 million), the Netherlands (US$92 million), Germany (US$46 million), Belgium (US$27 million) and Italy (US$13 million).

Superfoods Peru

Vice-Minister Vasquez went on to launch the Superfoods Peru brand before international businessmen, buyers, and the media.

This brand is intended to promote organic foods that —besides their nutritional value— provide healthy benefits to people.

Biofach is the perfect platform to promote Peruvian products through Superfoods Peru. A total of 130 countries, 2,300 exhibitors and 48,000 gather each year at this fair.
