Peru: Oil production rebounds, reaches 53,000 barrels per day

10:48 | Lima, May. 17.

Peruvian oil production reached 53,000 barrels per day in April 2019, after solving problems with the North Peruvian Pipeline, PeruPetro Chairman Seferino Yesquen informed.

In this sense, Yesquen reiterated the production target of 100,000 barrels of oil per day over the next years.

However, he indicated, it not only depends on the pipeline, but on other investments in Talara (Piura region).

Likewise, the PeruPetro chairman said he expects these investments to help take the first step towards 60,000 barrels per day this year.

Improving the pipeline

On the other hand, Energy and Mines Minister Francisco Ismodes stated that efforts to improve the pipeline and social space are being undertaken to enable a better development of the sector activities.

"Petroperu currently implements actions to ensure safer pipeline operations, but communities are asking for an independent study to determine the pipeline's situation and boost its operation," the official expressed.

For his part, Yesquen believes the pipeline adaptation and modernization may result in better prices, additional reserves, and increased exploration in the jungle.
