The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) highlighted today that Peru combines significant natural resources, solid fundamentals, and major investment opportunities to generate economic growth.
“We have a country with great potential in terms of natural resources, and there are excellent conditions for investment in Peru—which is key, as this drives economic growth and the well-being of the population,” explained Oscar Orcón, Director General of Financial Markets and Private Pension Systems at the MEF.
“Peru possesses several crucial fundamentals: we have maintained macroeconomic stability for over 20 years, there is legal certainty, an openness to trade, abundant resources, and ongoing infrastructure development,” he added.
During the Peru Banking & Finance Summit 2026, organized by El Dorado Investments, Oscar Orcón noted that, despite the El Niño phenomenon, the Peruvian economy has remained dynamic, growing by 3.1% between January and August of this year compared to the same period in 2025—a performance bolstered by strengthening domestic demand.
“Without the El Niño phenomenon, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) could have grown by 4%; however, given those conditions, it grew by 3.1% between January and August of this year. This didn’t happen by chance—there are specific factors that explain it,” he remarked.
“For instance, in the first half of 2026, domestic demand grew by 5.9%, which indicates that both households and businesses have confidence in the nation’s economic performance,” he pointed out.
“Furthermore, this is coupled with a 15.5% expansion in private investment—the highest rate seen since the first half of 2012,” he emphasized. Finally, the MEF official highlighted that corporate expectations regarding hiring and investment remain in the optimistic range and at high levels.
“Hiring expectations reflect the business sector’s confidence in continuing to commit to investments,” he noted.
