Peruvian
non-traditional exports totaled US$1.220 billion in January 2019, up 8.1% compared to the same month last year, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vasquez said on Friday.
Therefore, non-traditional shipments have seen 30 months of almost continuous growth, since they slid 0.1% in December 2018.
In this sense, the official indicated the most dynamic sectors in the first month of 2019 were textile-garment (+22%) and farming (+15%).
Textile-garment exports reached US$124 million in January this year, a 22% rise from 2018.
Textile sales saw an increase due to greater shipments of wool products and fine alpaca hair (+38.5%).
Likewise, the United States is the main destination for textile exports, accounting for 50% of the total.
On the other hand, non-traditional agro-exports amounted to US$664 million in January 2019, a 15% expansion compared to the same month last year.
This result was driven by higher sales of fruits such as pomegranates (+709%), blueberries (+106%), grapes (+18%), and mangoes (+15%).
Total exports
Peruvian exports totaled US$3.679 billion in January this year, a 7.4% decrease over the same period last year.
This decrease was due to a reduction in prices and in the mineral exportable supply.
