The new Talara Refinery will allow for greater production of clean fuels to supply them to the Peruvian north, center, south, and east. Similarly, it will attract energy-hydrocarbon sector investments into the country.
"It is one of the highest-quality facilities around the world aimed at processing crude oil residue and converting it into gasoline, diesel, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)," President Dina Boluarte expressed.
"The refinery will be able to process up to 95,000 oil barrels per day to supply Peru. Its operation will contribute to the reduction of fuel imports," she added.
"The projections are extremely positive, if we consider that the new Talara Refinery has provided benefits to the country, even before coming into operation," Mrs. Boluarte noted.
"It contributed nearly S/6.5 billion (about US$1.759 billion) in Income Taxes and General Sales Taxes, generated 10,000 direct jobs, and 20,000 indirect jobs, boosting the local and regional economy," she said.
The president also announced that investment will be made in the modernization of the Oleoducto Norperuano (Northern Peruvian Oil Pipeline) so as to restore the transportation of crude oil from the jungle, which will be achieved hand-in-hand with communities, as was already done to reactivate the operability of Block 192.
