Peru: New President meets with General Commanders of Armed Forces, National Police

The new President of the Republic Manuel Merino de Lama met on Tuesday with the general commanders of the Armed Forces minutes before taking office at Congress headquarters in Lima.

During the protocol meeting, held at Parliament's Ambassadors Room, the chiefs of the Peruvian Army, Air Force, Navy, Joint Command of the Armed Forces, and the National Police expressed their support for the succession established in the Political Constitution of Peru.

Thus, the Head of State gathered with the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces Major General Cesar Astudillo Salcedo; General Commander of the Army Major General Manuel Gomez de la Torre Aranibar; General Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Alfonso Menendez Calle; and General Commander of the Peruvian Air Force Lieutenant General Rodolfo Pereyra Cuneo.

On the occasion, the top official was also joined by Congressman Otto Guibovich.
