The Peruvian Executive Branch established new regulations linked to the state of national emergency against COVID-19, and they came into effect today.
According to
Supreme Decree No. 046-2021-PCM, these measures —to be in force from March 15 to 28— include a new classification in line with the alert level related to COVID-19.
In this sense, the provinces under extreme risk are: Abancay (Apurimac region); Caylloma (Arequipa region); Huaraz and Casma (Ancash region); Huamanga, Cangallo, and La Mar (Ayacucho region); as well as Cajamarca and Cajabamba (Cajamarca region).
The list also includes Cusco and La Convencion (Cusco region); Chincha and Pisco (Ica region); Jauja, Chupaca, and Chanchamayo (Junin region); Lambayeque (Lambayeque region); Trujillo (La Libertad region); Barranca, Huaral, and Huaura (Lima region); Maynas (Loreto region); Tambopata (Madre de Dios region); Mariscal Nieto (Moquegua region); Tacna (Tacna region); Coronel Portillo (Ucayali region); and Callao (Callao region).
Meanwhile, Piura, Huanuco, Amazonas, Huancavelica, Pasco, Puno, San Martin, and Tumbes regions are at high risk level. The other provinces of the remaining regions are at very high risk.
Likewise, nighttime curfew will run until 4:00 a.m. in all the abovementioned regions. It will begin at 11:00 p.m. (moderate alert areas), 10:00 p.m. (high alert areas), and 9:00 p.m. (very high and extreme alert level areas).
Furthermore, the use of private vehicles will be restricted on Sundays in high, very high, and extreme alert level zones.
Visiting beach areas, river banks, lakes, and lagoons has been authorized in moderate and high risk level regions, while it remains prohibited in very high and extreme risk level areas.
The decree also ordered the suspension of entry into Peru of foreigners from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil, or those who have made a stopover in any of those countries in the last 14 calendar days.
Capacity limits at businesses
In regions under high alert, the capacity limit at casinos and slot machine halls, gyms, cinemas, and indoor locations for performing arts will be 40%.
Meanwhile, it will be 60% at outdoor locations for performing arts.
In addition, the same capacity will be applied to indoor restaurants, while those located outdoors will have a capacity limit of 70%.
At stores selling essential goods, supermarkets, markets, bodegas, and pharmacies, the capacity limit will be 60%.
The capacity limit at malls, shopping arcades, conglomerates, department stores, and shops in general will be 50%.
At religious temples, the capacity limit will be 40%
At libraries, museums, cultural centers and zoos, the capacity limit will be 60%, at clubs and outdoor sports clubs the limit will be 50%, and it will be 60% at banks.
