Peru: Nearly 20,000 ha of illegal coca crops eradicated so far in 2023

A total of 19,563.41 hectares of illegal coca crops have been eradicated so far this year by the Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (Corah), the Ministry of Interior (Mininter) has reported.

The operations have been carried out with the support of the Antidrug Directorate (Dirandro) of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) in 9,827 plots located Ucayali, San Martin, Huanuco, Pasco, Loreto, and Junin regions.

The coca space reduction measures taken so far have helped counteract the production of 182.70 tons of cocaine hydrochloride.

According to a report by Corah, to date, eradication works are being promoted in four operational axes: Constitucion (Pasco), Caballococha (Loreto), Calleria (Ucayali), and Mazamari (Junin).

The same report indicates that 6,070.51 ha of illegal coca crops have been eradicated in the region of Ucayali, 4,257.30 ha in San Martin, 3,726.13 ha in Huanuco, 2,798.73 ha in Pasco, and 659.23 ha in Junin.

In addition, eight clandestine rustic laboratories used for the production of cocaine drugs —six in the region of Huanuco, one in Ucayali, and one in Pasco— were destroyed as part of the eradication efforts.
