A total of 119,814 people have traveled to the interior of the country or flown to the capital city Lima since domestic flights resumed in Peru. This figure covers a period from July 15 through August 17,
the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) said on Monday.
The MTC reported that 885 air operations were carried out to transport these passengers during the above-mentioned period.
The resumption of commercial flights included the reopening of 15 routes from Lima to the cities of Iquitos, Piura, Pucallpa, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Talara, Tumbes, Chachapoyas, Cusco, Juliaca, Ayacucho, Tacna, Cajamarca, Jaen, and Ilo. At present, only the flights that serve the first eight routes are operating.
The figures provided by Lima Airport Partners, the operator of the Lima-based
Jorge Chavez International Airport, show that the most demanded destinations are Iquitos, Piura, Pucallpa, Chiclayo and Trujillo.
The transportation of passengers meets the health protocol —published by the MTC— to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in commercial flights. The document provides that travelers must wear a face mask and face shield during the flight.
Moreover, it refers to the actions that airports and airlines must take, such as conducting passenger temperature screenings, providing alcohol-based hand sanitizer and disinfecting the airplane before and after each flight.
