Peru: National, Monumental stadiums seek to host Libertadores and Sudamericana finals

14:31 | Lima, Feb. 24.

Peru's National and Monumental stadiums seek to host the finals of Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana in 2021.

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) shall choose from 19 candidate venues, which is why an inspection commission is visiting the sports arenas that aspire to host the above-mentioned events.

The commission's schedule includes visits to 19 stadiums in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay, and mentions the events that they seek to host.

"The evaluation work is focusing its attention on the Brazilian venues, as it did in Argentina in the past few days (last week)," the Conmebol said in a statement, noting that the inspection involves the infrastructure and logistics of each stadium and host city.

South America's soccer governing body stated that —due to the COVID-19 pandemic, border restrictions, and priority dates— the data focus on the election of venues for this year's finals of both tournaments.

However, it noted that all this information will be considered for the corresponding finals in 2022 and 2023.
