Peru: Minsa sends health professionals, equipment, and medicines to Ucayali region

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Friday sent a delegation of nine health professionals —led by Deputy Public Health Minister Nancy Zerpa— as well as 6 tons of medicines plus medical and personal protective equipment to Ucayali, in order to enhance the containment measures adopted by said rainforest region in response to COVID-19.


The government official brought medications such as clonazepam and hydroxychloroquine, medical equipment such as manometers, flowmeters, heart rate monitors, and nearly 80,000 pieces of personal protective equipment for the health heroes. 

The aid also included 70,000 face masks to be distributed among the population.


Zerpa was joined by former Health Minister Zulema Tomas. Her visit is intended to inspect and strengthen health services in said Amazon rainforest area during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minsa sent nine health professionals to support the response actions, including doctors and nurses who will increase the health care capacity in the region.

The delegation will meet with the Ucayali Region Governor, the head of the COVID-19 Operations Command team in said region, and local authorities who will report on the pandemic's impact.

Moreover, the itinerary includes a visit to health centers to inspect the response of healthcare services.
