09:13 | Acobamba (Junin region), May. 3.
Every year in early May, the Andean district of Acobamba becomes a world pilgrim center for devotees of Lord of Muruhuay.
Known as the patron of Tarma province, the Lord of Muruhuay is kept within the Sanctuary of the same name, situated in the aforementioned district.
Year after year, thousands of worshipers flock to the area to participate in the traditional festivity.
Declared National Cultural Heritage of Peru in 2017, the Lord of Muruhuay festivity attracts a large number of visitors from all over the country and abroad.
May 1 is the first of the three main days.

Devotion to Lord of Muruhuay is very powerful, as evidenced by the long lines formed at the sanctuary, which houses the image of a crucified Christ that took shape on the skirts of Shalacoto Hill.
Several groups of dancers and musicians gather in the sanctuary's atrium to pay tribute to Tarma's saint patron.
The performances are witnessed by hundreds of pilgrims who arrive to pray and ask for the image's blessing.
The religious observance is one of the most important ones in central Peru and involves a series of religious, cultural, and tourist activities that give it a special meaning. Besides, it is one of the longest celebrations, as it runs until June.
