Peru: Lima 2019 Legacy Project to implement 5 temporary hospitals, 2 ICU rooms

00:00 | Lima, May. 15.

Combating the health emergency caused by COVID-19 is one of the Government's goals. Therefore, five temporary hospitals and two intensive care unit (ICU) rooms will be implemented in the Lima Province and Metropolitan Area to reinforce the health system in the areas of prevention, control, and surveillance.

The Urgency Decree No. 055-2020, published Thursday in El Peruano official gazette, provides that the supply of hospital services will be expanded to strengthen the health response.

The facilities will be equipped with 500 observation beds and 40 ICU beds, which will entail an investment of S/43.6 million (around US$12.7 million).

The Pan American and Para Pan American Games Special Legacy Project, attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), will be in charge of the implementation task and the services, given its experience in organizing the Lima 2019 Games and implementing temporary infrastructure, which was key to prepare the Pan American Games venues in record time.

Additionally, it will be provided with a regulatory framework to carry out national and international contracts, as well as to acquire, lease, install and put into operation the temporary health infrastructure and equipment, medical support services, and temporary care modules.

As is known, the Project implemented a large number of transparent procurement processes, within the framework of the Public Procurement Law, the Resource Management Agreement (CAR), and the Government to Government (G2G) Agreement, thus completing more than 800 processes.
