The world's largest quinoa salad will intend to break a Guinness record next Wednesday at United States’ Florida International University.
The dish will be prepared by Chef Rosa Polo, along with members of both educational institutions: Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) and San Ignacio College, with the aim of showing the Incas’ golden grain virtues and boosting its global consumption supported by its highly-nutritional properties.
The official attempt will take place on Wednesday 28 at 11:30 AM (Lima time). It will be broadcasted live; thus, people will be allowed to access the event by logging on to www.usil.edu.pe.
As part of prior activities the "Divine Quinoa" contest will be held. It will see the participation of Miami's most prestigious hotels and restaurants' Executive Chefs, who will be awarded a trip to USIL School of Culinary Arts based in Lima, where they will be given lessons about Peruvian cuisine.
Quinoa is considered a "golden grain" because of its high-protein content. Similarly, it is a foodstuff which nutritional properties were valued and worshipped by ancient Peruvians since the beginning of history.
Nowadays, the grain counts on a great international recognition being considered a key food aimed at eradicating hunger, malnutrition and fighting both diseases, obesity and diabetes.
Currently, Peru is the world's first quinoa exporting country, as it has traded 12,454 metric tons of this cereal worth US$52.2 million during the first five months of 2015, according to PromPeru figures.
