The Peruvian Congress has suspended legislators Kenji Fujimori, Bienvenido Ramirez, and Guillermo Bocangel —while their criminal proceedings are ongoing— after it approved a constitutional accusation against them.
As is known, 38-year-old Fujimori had become a close supporter of Kuczynski while the latter was in office.
On Wednesday night —after a long debate in a plenary session— the Parliament decreed to report to the National Election Board (JNE) on the situation so that proxies' credentials can be issued.
The voting was done separately and split into two parts. The constitutional accusation was put to the vote first. Then, members of Congress voted on the suspension for each legislator (
Fujimori, Bocangel, and Ramirez).
The constitutional accusation against the youngest son of
former President Alberto Fujimori was passed with 61 votes in favor. Then, 58 lawmakers voted to suspend him.
As for Ramirez and Bocangel, the constitutional accusation and the suspension received 57 votes in favor each.
According to the accusation report —supported by Congressman Cesar Segura— the abovementioned members of Parliament infringed the Constitution and allegedly committed crimes of active bribery and influence peddling.
Also, it states the lawmakers —appearing in the video footage captured by counterpart Moises Mamani— worked jointly to offer kickbacks to legislators in return for voting against
Kuczynski's impeachment.
