According to Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both dignitaries reviewed the main issues on their shared agenda, including regional integration and public security. Foreign Minister-designate Carlos Espa also attended the meeting.
The gathering took place as part of the activities preceding the official presidential inauguration ceremony.
In accordance with the protocol established by the Ministry, the Congressional Announcement Commission will arrive at this location to invite the president-elect to the swearing-in ceremony at the Legislative Branch venue.
Fujimori Higuchi is scheduled to be sworn in as President of the Republic shortly after noon.
Afterwards, she will deliver her first address as head of state, announcing her administration's main policy guidelines.
The presidential inauguration ceremony will be attended by national authorities and high-ranking dignitaries, including King Felipe VI of Spain, as well as Presidents Daniel Noboa (Ecuador), Jose Antonio Kast (Chile), Yamandu Orsi (Uruguay), Jose Raul Mulino (Panama), Santiago Peña (Paraguay), and Rodrigo Paz (Bolivia).
Also attending will be U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
He arrived in Lima to take part in the Supreme Transfer of Command ceremonies on behalf of President Donald Trump.
