09:47 | Lima, Mar. 21.

General Jorge Luis Angulo Tejada was appointed as Commander General of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) on Tuesday.

The appointment was made official by Supreme Resolution 051-2023-IN, which was published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The resolution states that Angulo Tejada has been promoted from the rank of Lieutenant General to that of General of Arms.

The appointment took place in accordance with the provisions of Article 8 of the PNP Law (Legislative Decree 1267).

Said article provides that the head of said institution shall be appointed by the President of the Republic, and shall be chosen from among the three generals of arms of the PNP.

Raul Alfaro

On the other hand, according to Supreme Resolution 050-2023-IN, the appointment of Raul Alfaro Alvarado as the head of the General Command of the National Police has been terminated.

This resolution indicates that the aforementioned member of the PNP has been placed into retirement.

Moreover, the document states that Alvarado's name appears in an investigation carried out by the Public Ministry.

Therefore, he faces a situation that places him in a conflict of interest, which is incompatible with the role of Commander General of the National Police.
