expects to have the results of the presidential election for the 2026 General Elections (EG 2026) by mid-May, the electoral body's Secretary General Yessica Clavijo stated.
The official noted that the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) are working intensively on resolving challenged electoral records and vote recount hearings.
Meanwhile, the JNE is holding public hearings regarding appeals against decisions issued by the first instance.
She noted that this guarantees the authenticity, transparency, and legitimacy of Peru's democratic system.
In an interview with JNE Media, Clavijo said Thursday, May 7, is the deadline for the 60 Special Electoral Boards (JEE) across the country to conclude vote recount hearings, whose results will be used for the proclamation of the presidential election results.
"Once this vote recount stage is completed, the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) will request from the computing centers of the ONPE's Decentralized Electoral Process Offices (ODPE) the 100% vote count report within their territorial jurisdiction," Clavijo indicated.
"Subsequently, they will issue their Decentralized Record of Proclamation of Vote Count Results for the Election of the President and Vice Presidents of the Republic," she added.
The official explained that the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) issue their corresponding records during public hearings attended by representatives of political parties, who sign the document.
In addition, the records are published in the country's largest-circulation newspapers for public information nationwide.
"These records are then sent to the JNE, which means we are close to proclaiming which candidates for the Presidency of the Republic will advance to the runoff election," she concluded.
