Peru was elected member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Body for the 2024-2027 period, the Government reported on Friday via a joint statement by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Labor-Employment Promotion (MTPE).

This decision means occupying a privileged seat in the body that decides the course of the organization headed by ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo, the document stated.

Peru's candidacy was proposed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in coordination with the MTPE, at the ILO headquarters -after having participated in the Davos Forum last February.

The wide support obtained in this election, in coordination with Peru's Permanent Representation to the International Organizations based in Geneva and the MTPE, as well as the scaling up of Peru's foreign policy interlocution, have enabled the South American country to attain this achievement.

"Given that it is the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion's responsibility to engage with various ILO bodies, the Foreign Affairs Office will provide all the support required by said Ministry to fulfill its duties, under the best conditions, at the multilateral organization's governing body," it concluded.
