The spectacular celebration of Inti Raymi 2023 —which took place successfully in the Andean city of Cusco on June 24— was broadcast on 18 news programs in the United States, thanks to an audiovisual production managed by Peru's Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru).

The special coverage —narrated by PromPeru's Yuriko Aquino— explains to the U.S. audience the significance of Inti Raymi, considered the largest festival of the Inca Empire in honor of the Sun God.

It also showcased the three impressive locations where the event was held, such as the Qoricancha esplanade, the Plaza de Armas (Cusco's Main Square), and the Archaeological Complex of Sacsayhuaman.

The news report in North American media has had an impact on over 20 million people in major cities: New York, Miami, Detroit, Denver, Washington D.C., among others.

Additionally, it has an estimated value of US$296,805.

Similarly, S/33 million (about US$9.17 million) in revenue was generated due to the arrival of hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists, in addition to the massive participation of Cusco's population, according to data from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Promotion of Peru as destination in U.S.

PromPeru carries out various promotional activities to encourage travel from the United States, as it has been the market that has shown the best recovery in recent years.

In 2022, it was the main source market in terms of passengers, with 464,759 international arrivals, thus accounting for 23% of total visits to Peru.

Among the interests of North American travelers are popular festivals, which have become a great opportunity for international tourism.

According to Turismo In, PromPeru's free service that disseminates exclusive reports on the demand and trends of the tourism sector, cultural tourism is a trend among those who long to experience the authenticity of the country they visit.

It is worth noting that millennials are among the main decision-makers for travel, and they are more attracted to this cultural immersion.

This preference represents an opportunity for international tourism companies to partner with actors and guides who include genuine cultural elements in the experiences they offer.
