Interior Minister Carlos Moran on Monday affirmed Peruvian National Police officers
during the process aimed at arresting the late President Alan Garcia.
In this sense, the Minister ruled out having committed any negligence during the operation, as the police never used the force and did not have any physical contact with Garcia.
"There was never contact with the man. He was never subdued by the police, he was never under police custody. That's why I say there was no negligence. In other cases, the detained person manages to free himself from the captors and commits an attack against his own life (…)," Moran expressed.
Likewise, the cabinet member explained they were going to notify Garcia about the judicial resolution once he would come downstairs.
Moran went on to add the police were aware that the ex-President had weapons, since these were registered in the National Superintendency for the Control of Security Services, Arms, Ammunition and Explosives for Civilian Use (Sucamec).
However, they did not know Garcia had a revolver in his pocket when they established initial contact with him at his home.
