reported that inbound tourism is on the rise and grew 41% between January and July 2024 over the same period in 2023.
The Cabinet member noted that, according to the latest "Monthly Tourism Report," a total of 1,874,800 foreign tourists visited the South American country in the first seven months of this year.
This report shows that, during the first seven months of 2024, the main markets issuing foreign tourists were Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, and Colombia. They accounted for 67% of the foreign tourists who entered Peruvian territory, Galdo indicated.
Based on figures obtained from the immigration control offices of the National Immigration Superintendence, the recent "Monthly Tourism Report" shows that, 431,657 Chileans arrived in Peru in the analyzed period, representing 23% of the total number of foreign visitors.
They were followed by 360,006 U.S. citizens (19.2%); 154,296 Ecuadorians (8.2%); 108,091 Bolivians (5.8%); 107,793 Brazilians (5.7%); and 93,831 Colombians (5%).
At the regional bloc level, the report registered the arrival of 977,467 tourists from South America (equivalent to 52.1% of total visits); 459,720 from North America (24.5%); 301,499 from Europe (16.1%); and 70,541 from Asia (3.8%).
In July alone, the flow of visits by inbound tourists increased 17.2% compared to the figures reached in the same month last year, registering the entry of 308,427 foreign citizens.
Increase in visits to tourist attractions
In the case of the
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, a 102.8% increase was observed in the flow of visitors compared to the values reached during the first six months of 2023, with the entry of
648,268 visitors, including
Peruvians and foreigners.
Also noteworthy is the
Sacsayhuaman Esplanade, with the arrival of
401,726 domestic and foreign tourists in the first half of 2024, a figure that exceeded by 97.1% the values recorded in the same period in 2023.
The
Ballestas Islands (Ica region) saw a
42.9% increase in visitor numbers compared to the first six months of 2023, with 273,962 domestic and international tourists.
