Peru in APEC: Foreign Affairs Min highlights importance of trade and investment

14:24 | Lima, Nov. 8.

Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua on Monday participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting, and noted that trade and investment are key instruments in achieving economic development in Peru and all countries.

"To be sustainable, said development has to be inclusive of all economic agents, that is, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, women, youth, indigenous populations, among others," he pointed out.

The minister remarked that APEC plays a crucial role in sharing ideas and moving towards cooperation schemes in favor of knowledge transfer, capacity building, and public policies that will produce tangible results to improve the quality of life of populations.

This 2021 edition of the APEC forum, hosted by New Zealand, is held virtually from November 8 to 9 in line with the global health situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Precisely, one of the topics to be addressed as a priority will be the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the economic recovery of the Asia-Pacific region.
