Cusco region's Huaylia de Chumbivilcas dance was declared a National Cultural Heritage by Peru's Culture Ministry.
The recognition was granted to the dance-music genre resulting from a series of fusion processes emerged in Peru.
According to a Deputy Ministerial Resolution published in El Peruano official newspaper, the said cultural expression has become the musical framework for important festive ceremonies and rituals practiced in zone, above all during Christmas celebrations.
The said recognition exclusively focuses on Huaylias de Chumbivilcas dance-music genre and not on elements, which violate basic human rights, include cruel actions or animal sacrifice.
Huaylia is a genre performed in provinces belonging to Junin, Huancavelica, Cusco, Ayacucho and Apurimac regions.
It features peculiarities and distinctive elements in each different place and is usually linked to Christmas festivities taking place in the Peruvian Andes.
As for Cusco, Huaylia is danced in Chumbivilcas province, above all in Santo Tomas district.
The said resolution is signed by Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries Deputy Minister Juan Pablo de la Fuente Brunke.
