Peru will host the upcoming South American Volleyball Championship with an eye toward qualifying for the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014.
The 30th edition of the South American Championship will be held from September 18-22 in the southern Peruvian city of Ica.
Peru, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela will play each other in a round robin league system with the winner advancing to the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014.
The winner will also qualify for this year's World Grand Champions Cup from November 12 to 17. The World Grand Champions Cup is a quadrennial round-robin competition for men and women.
The last South American Championship was held in 2011 in Lima, Peru, and Brazil emerged as champions for the ninth straight time. Peru have competed in the South American Championship 28 times and have won the gold medal 12 times and the silver 10 times. Brazil leads the medal table with 17 gold and 11 silver.
