Peru's national team holds 20th position in the latest World Ranking published Thursday by Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

It should be noted FIFA implemented its new formula in August 2018, benefiting some teams such as France.

The World Champions leaped six spots —they held the 7th place before their crowning— to position themselves at the top of the FIFA ranking.

Belgium climbed one place, whereas Brazil dropped one.

World Cup finalists Croatia leaped 16 spots, thus holding the fourth place.

Previous leaders Germany slumped to 15th (down 14) after their elimination in the group stage.

According to FIFA, this ranking was completely altered by the World Cup and the adoption of a new calculation method.

Last June, FIFA President Gianni Infantino informed the monthly ranking formula would be modified in order to give more weight to official matches.

The new formula was developed by a group of specialists and statisticians based on the Elo method of calculation, FIFA explained.

The new system should prevent potential ranking manipulation and provide teams with equal opportunities to climb in the rankings.
