Several provinces across Piura region are witnessing moderate to heavy rains accompanied by electrical storms. They are expected to intensify in the next few hours, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) has warned.

Moreover, the country's weather agency indicated that a similar situation is observed in other jurisdictions in northern Peru.

Via Twitter, the agency attached to the Ministry of Environment (Minam) underscored that the provinces of Piura, Morropon, and Ayabaca are hit by rains and electrical storms.

The Sapillica meteorological station in the province of Ayabaca reported an accumulated rainfall of 31 mm until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while rains are expected to persist, Senamhi said in another tweet.

From 7:00 a.m. on April 3 to 7:00 a.m. on April 4, an accumulated rainfall was registered by Piura's meteorological stations as follows: Chulucanas, 161 mm; Morropon, 114.1 mm; Miraflores, 20.5 mm; San Miguel, 20.5 mm; Salitral, 68.7 mm; and Malacasi, 58.4 mm.

What about the rest of northern Peru?

Meanwhile, ASisMet —a blog that provides information on issues of Astronomy, Seismology, and Meteorology— on Tuesday reported the development of an electrical storm in Lambayeque (in western Olmos) at 10:40 p.m. and that strong electrical storms continued to move between the provinces of Piura and Morropon.

An hour earlier, via Twitter, it had warned on the formation of a strong electrical storm between the provinces of Piura and Morropon and its expansion, so it recommends taking precautions.

According to ASisMet, Piura's provinces of Sullana and Ayabaca had experienced electrical storms by 8:00 p.m.
