A total of 45 health workers from the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) left for Huanuco and Loreto on Monday morning to join the frontal fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in both regions, given the increase in new cases reported in recent days.

According to EsSalud, a first group —made up of 28 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and technologists— headed to Huanuco in order to improve the care, treatment, and recovery of people affected by this disease at health facilities within the Huanuco Healthcare Network.

This multidisciplinary team will remain in said region until February 5 in order to strengthen its health care system.

Additionally, EsSalud shipped medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and medicines for the benefit of the population.

The shipment is made up of 1,000 kg of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as medical supplies such as disposable overalls, aseptic aprons, splash safety goggles, and hypodermic needles, among others.

Moreover, EsSalud sent 50 oxygen concentrators and a batch of oxygen cylinders to Huanuco.

On the other hand, a second team —made up of 17 professionals from EsSalud's Hospital Peru— will join the staff from the Loreto Healthcare Network, given the increase in new cases reported in this region.

The team consists of 10 doctors, 5 nurses, and 2 laboratory technologists, who will remain in said region until February 5 in order to provide care at doctor's offices, triage, emergency rooms, in-patient wards, observation rooms, and during home visits for the benefit of the population.

EsSalud noted that, in 2020, its Flexible Offer Management sent 13 medical teams to Huanuco and delivered 18,910 medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Likewise, 14 medical teams were deployed to Loreto during the past 10 months of the pandemic. Also, 13,780 medical services were delivered to said region, which is one of the worst-hit areas in Peru's second wave of COVID-19.
