Peru: Health Ministry issues epidemiological alert due to rise in COVID-19 cases

The regions of Arequipa, Loreto, Cusco, Ancash, and Ica, as well as Metropolitan Lima and Callao, have seen an increase in COVID-19 cases for at least three consecutive weeks.

For this reason, the Ministry of Health (Minsa), through the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), has issued the epidemiological alert AE-025-2022. 

In Arequipa, such a rise was reported in the districts of Yanahuara, Alto Selva Alegre, and Jose Luis Bustamante y Ribeyro, as well as in the downtown area.

Similarly, in Cusco, the increase was observed in its downtown area and in the district of Wanchaq. 

Meanwhile, in Loreto, an increase in the number of cases was reported in the districts of Iquitos, Punchana, and San Juan Bautista, within the province of Maynas.

In Ancash, the rise was observed in the districts of Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote, within Santa province, as well as in the city of Huaraz and the district of Independencia, within the province of Huaraz. 

In Ica region, the cities that reported an increase in COVID-19 infections are Ica and Chincha Alta. 

In Metropolitan Lima, the increase is observed within the four Directorates of Integrated Health Networks (Diris), mainly in the districts of Ate, Breña, Carabayllo, Chorrillos, Comas, Independencia, Jesus Maria, La Molina, La Victoria, Pueblo Libre, Rimac, San Borja, San Isidro, San Juan de Lurigancho, San Juan de Miraflores, San Martin de Porres, San Miguel, Santiago de Surco, Surquillo, Villa El Salvador, and Villa Maria del Triunfo. 

In Callao, downtown Callao and the district of Ventanilla have seen a growth in COVID-19 cases.
