Peru has one of the highest rates of women participation in
peacekeeping operations among countries in the region, accounting for 12% of the total Peruvian Blue Helmets deployed around the world, Deputy Minister for Defense Policies Hernan Flores affirmed.
"This percentage will continue growing, and we expect to exceed 15% of female participation in peacekeeping operations very soon, with plans to reach 20%," the official expressed.
Delegations of over 60 countries and 100 organizations linked to peacekeeping operations in the world participate in the event, which entered its second day.
At present, the Inca country has deployed 243 officers in seven peacekeeping missions around the world. 31 of them are women.
History
Flores recalled that Peru has participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations since 1958. To date, a contingent composed of 205 members of the Peru's Engineering Company have been sent to the Central African Republic.
"This forum (IATPC) enables the study and exchange of experiences among soldiers, police officers, and civilians who have participated in peacekeeping operations, as well as experts who carry out research related to this subject," he added.
