Peru has exceptional conditions to become a key player in mining exploration

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) took part in the opening of ProEXPLO 2026 – 15th International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers, a major forum that brought together authorities, business leaders, investors, and specialists linked to mining exploration.

During the opening ceremony, Energy and Mines Minister Waldir Ayasta highlighted the strategic importance of mining exploration in the current context of global energy transition, underscoring that this activity represents the starting point for the development of new projects and the sustainable use of mineral resources.

"The world has changed. Today we are moving toward an energy transition that requires more minerals, more technology, and, above all, greater capacity to discover new resources. In that context, mining exploration has become a strategic activity, because that is where everything begins," he stated.

The government official noted that Latin America is consolidating its role as a key region for mining exploration.

The Cabinet member stressed that Peru has exceptional conditions to position itself as a leading player in this process, thanks to its geological wealth, talented workforce, and the development of its mining ecosystem.

He underscored that current sector results—reflected in rising mineral production, strong export performance, and increased investment in recent years—are a direct consequence of decisions made during the exploration stage.

"We currently have a significant portfolio of exploration and mining investment ventures that project us into the future. Each of these initiatives represents an opportunity for the development of our regions and the country as a whole," Ayasta indicated.

However, the minister acknowledged that challenges remain in consolidating the sector's growth, including strengthening the institutional framework, improving procedures, and providing greater predictability to attract investment.

In that regard, he reaffirmed Minem's commitment to promoting responsible mining exploration, based on early dialogue with communities and trust-building as a central pillar of sustainable development.

"Strengthening institutions, improving procedures, and providing greater predictability are essential tasks to continue attracting investment. But we are aware that development is not built solely on regulations or figures, but on trust. That is why, from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, we promote exploration carried out responsibly, with early dialogue and a genuine commitment to communities," Ayasta emphasized.

The minister highlighted that ProEXPLO 2026 serves as a key platform for knowledge exchange, trend analysis, and partnership-building that contribute to strengthening the mining sector.

"Mining exploration is not only a technical activity. It is a bet on the country's future—a future that requires innovation, responsibility, and a shared long-term vision," Ayasta said.

"Peru has the resources, talent, and capacity to take on this challenge. I am convinced that if we continue working together—State, business, academia, and society—we can promote modern, sustainable mining that generates opportunities for all," he added.

The minister said that Minem thus reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to boost mining exploration as a driver of development, encouraging responsible investment that contributes to economic growth and the well-being of all Peruvians.
