The Presidency of the Republic on Sunday morning urged the population to participate in the national multi-hazard drill scheduled for May 31 at 10:00 a.m.

Said simulation exercise aims to strengthen the preparedness and response capabilities of the entities making up the National Disaster Risk Management System (Sinagerd) and the population in general.

The purpose is to respond efficiently and in a timely manner to emergencies or disasters.

The Presidency of the Republic reminded the population to evacuate to external safe areas and to assembly points established by local and regional authorities.

Moreover, people are encouraged to review their family emergency plan or to prepare one if there is no such plan yet.

According to Prime Minister Anibal Torres, the epicenter of such exercises will be Lima’s district of Chorrillos, which is believed to be one of the most severely damaged districts after an earthquake, due to its location.

"Cell phone alarms will go off that day at that time,” he said last Thursday.

The drill will last about 30 minutes and will include coordinated efforts by different sectors such as Civil Defense, the Armed Forces, and firefighters.
