The Government of Peru on Tuesday called on Colombian authorities and people to persevere on the path of democratic dialogue with the aim of overcoming the difficult circumstances the country is currently experiencing.

Via social media, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry "deeply lamented the violent acts and the victims that occurred in Colombia, a country to which close ties of friendship and cooperation unite us."

Over recent days, Colombia has been facing protests and disturbance in various cities against the questioned tax reform project, already withdrawn by the Government.

The protests have so far left at least 19 dead, according to reports by the Colombian Ombudsman's Office.
