Peru Gov't passes gap closing plan for peoples in Loreto's oil projects influence areas

The Government on Friday approved a gap closing plan for communities based in oil sector (projects) influence areas within the provinces of Datem del Marañon, Loreto, Alto Amazonas, Requena, and Maynas in Loreto region.

According to Supreme Decree No. 145-2020-PCM, published in El Peruano official gazette for the implementation of this plan, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) seeks cooperation, participation and opinion from representatives of public and/or private entities based in the influence areas of oil sector (projects) in Loreto, mainly from the Regional Government and representatives of indigenous organizations in the assistance field.

The Deputy Ministry of Territorial Governance will be in charge of monitoring and following up the plan's implementation process. To do so, it will undertake the following actions:

a) Schedule periodic mandatory meetings for Government sectors and levels included in the gap closing plan.

b) Request and receive information regarding the interventions of Government sectors and levels included in the plan.

c) Report on the progress made in the implementation of the plan to the Council of Ministers every six months.

d) Other activities necessary to efficiently comply with the monitoring and follow-up of the plan's implementation process.

The aim of the gap closing plan is to improve the living conditions of the population in Loreto's oil sector (projects) influence areas and, in particular, of native communities, by increasing the State presence and joint actions.
