Peru Gov't disbursed US$942 million for reconstruction works in Jan 2019

The Government of Peru has disbursed some S/3.152 billion (around US$942 million) to support reconstruction projects in areas affected by Coastal El Niño weather event, President Martin Vizcarra said on Friday.

In this sense, the Peruvian leader said his administration is projected to invest some S/7 billion (about US$2 billion) in the reconstruction of affected areas. 

Speaking from Piura, where he traveled to monitor the progress of works, the Head of State indicated that regional and local governors in northern Peru have also received over S/2 billion (about US$597 million) of the balance from last year.

"We expect a S/7 billion (around US$2 billion) investment in reconstruction this year, and S/3.152 billion (around US$942 million) is being made available in January (via three supreme decrees)," the statesman remarked.

In addition to this sum, he explained, a S/2 billion (about US$597 million) balance from 2018 was transferred to municipal and regional governments to continue the works.

Peru's top official affirmed the Executive Branch seeks to keep the reconstruction process in motion without corruption.

To do so, he calls for joint efforts between regional and local governments in order to carry out works transparently.
