Peru Govt approves National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change

10:20 | Lima, Jun. 9.

The Government on Wednesday approved the "Peru's National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change: an input for the update of the National Strategy on Climate Change."

This was established by Ministerial Resolution No. 096-2021-MINAM, published in the official gazette El Peruano.

The provisions of this rule state that the bill "Peru's National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change: an input for the update of the National Strategy on Climate Change" was supported by the General Directorate for Climate Change and Desertification of the Ministry of Environment (MINAM).

The bill states that this plan is an instrument of guiding nature, focused on the country's adaptation plan on climate change, whose content serves as an input for the update of the National Strategy on Climate Change.

It also recalls that the above-mentioned draft legislation was published for 20 working days to collect contributions and comments from various sectors involved in the matter.

Finally, it provides that the "Peru's National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change: an input for the update of the National Strategy on Climate Change" is based on the scope of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) —signed by Peru in Rio de Janeiro back on June 12, 1992— whose purpose is to stabilize concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

The Ministerial Resolution was signed by Environment Minister Gabriel Quijandria.
