The Executive Branch has vetoed the bill approved at Congress by which June 7, Flag Day, was declared a non-working holiday in Peru.

Prime Minister Alberto Otarola made the announcement in remarks to reporters.

"We want to communicate this (message) to all citizens so that they take the precautions linked to the case and with due anticipation," he expressed.

The Cabinet chief pointed out that this decision is taken in order to move the economic reactivation forward —a necessary process after the situations that have arisen in recent times.

"The best way to pay tribute to our flag is by working and laying the foundations for the economic recovery," he emphasized.

In this sense, the Prime Minister reported that the official letter containing the veto on this bill is being sent for the corresponding processing.

"We are sure that Congress will understand it (this decision)," he said.
