on Wednesday approved a supreme decree that extends the state of emergency in the National Road Network and expands this measure throughout regional and local road networks in order to guarantee the free circulation of Peruvian citizens,
In remarks to reporters, Otarola emphasized that the state of emergency is intended to guarantee the right to free movement of people during the National Holidays (July 28-29).
The Cabinet chief said the Government is respectful of the right that every Peruvian has to march peacefully, but that social protests should not affect public assets and people's freedom.
The high-ranking official indicated that the Government will safeguard the integrity of demonstrators and also of the millions of Peruvians who do not want to march.
Thus, all guarantees will be granted during the opposition demonstration called "La Toma de Lima" (Takeover of Lima) scheduled for next week.
Furthermore, Otarola underlined that —within the framework of National Holidays— a series of activities will be held with the objective of "reminding (everyone) that Peru is a peaceful country and that it offers many opportunities," especially to the families and the household economy of those who have less.
Remarks were made at the Government Palace Courtyard of Honor following a Council of Ministers session.
