The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed his administration seeks to build a solid, efficient, modern, and decentralized health system in Peru.

During his speech, the Head of State expressed his commitment to strengthen the various care services provided at said hospital and improve care for the nearly two million insured citizens who attend its facilities.

In this sense, the top official indicated that one of the main challenges assumed by this administration is to guarantee all Peruvians' right to health.

"Our challenge now is to do what has not been done in a long time: build a solid, efficient, modern, and decentralized health system; a health system that treats everyone equally, that does not discriminate, that is more humane," Mr. Castillo expressed.

He indicated that, through the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), important steps are already being taken with the construction of bicentennial hospitals —four of which have been inaugurated since December 2021 in Jauja (Junín), Canta Callao (Callao), Chota (Cajamarca), and Chao (La Libertad).

The top official added that public works are also underway, such as Antonio Lorena Hospital in Cusco, whose construction had been stalled for 10 years. Nonetheless, it will be completed soon thanks to efforts by this administration, through the Ministry of Health (Minsa), and the commitment of regional authorities.

Moreover, the President stressed that his administration is committed to meeting the salary demands from health personnel, highlighting their important work during the pandemic and always.

"We are clear about the path to continue improving health conditions; we must attend better and more decisively to the Peruvian people's needs, always listening to the people and never turning our backs on the citizenry," he said.

The event was also attended by Ministers Alejandro Salas (Labor-Employment Promotion) and Kelly Portalatino (Health), among other authorities.
