The Peruvian Government, through the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), on Friday greeted and thanked the women and men from the countryside, who with their work sustain the country's food, within the framework of Peruvian Farmer's Day.

"Today, we thank all women and men from the countryside, who thanks to their efforts and daily work sustain the country's food," the PCM expressed on its official Twitter account.

In its message, it also pointed out that the Government will continue working for the Second Agrarian Reform and thus undertake efforts for agricultural development in Peru.

The Second Agrarian Reform aims to improve agricultural productivity in the country so as to address the problems that put food security at risk.

Likewise, it seeks to guarantee water security, improve productivity based on technological innovation, a sustainable management of forestry production, as well as the development of domestic and international markets.

Every June 24, the Farmer's Day is celebrated nationwide. On that occasion, countryside workers are recognized, who with their hard work and full perseverance contribute to the economic, social, and food development of Peru.

Bill No. 17716 —also known as Agrarian Reform Law enacted by the government of former President Juan Velasco Alvarado (1968-1975)— granted agriculture the importance it deserved. In addition, terms such as the Day of the Indian were changed to Day of the Farmer.
