The Peruvian Government on Wednesday reiterated its deep concern over the events occurring in Gaza Strip, particularly regarding recent announcements by Israeli authorities about the expansion of military operations in the area and the forced relocation of Palestinian populations.
In a statement issued by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Peruvian authorities expressed that this situation adds to the airstrikes that continue to cause the deaths of a large number of civilians, including children and vulnerable individuals.
It constitutes "an unacceptable violation of International Humanitarian Law."
"Peru joins the rejection expressed by the United Nations Secretary-General regarding the repeated acts of any form of forced displacement of Gaza's population, and laments the recent armed action in the West Bank that endangered a delegation of foreign diplomats," the communiqué pointed out.
In this regard, the Peruvian Government once again issued an urgent call for an immediate end to the armed actions in Gaza and for the initiation of negotiations leading to a lasting peace in the region.
Lastly, it reiterated its commitment to and support for the two-State solution, so that both can coexist in peace within secure and mutually agreed-upon borders, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, international law, and the fulfillment of the commitments made by all parties involved.
In recent hours, the Israeli army launched nearly a hundred attacks on Gaza Strip.
Therefore, Pope Leo XIV called on Wednesday for more consistent humanitarian aid to enter this devastated area of the Middle East.
