Eradication operations targeting illegal coca crops have recorded significant progress at the start of 2026.
Actions carried out so far this year have eliminated 1,261.9 hectares of illicit crops, preventing the potential production of 11.56 metric tons of cocaine hydrochloride.
The operations are concentrated in the Aguaytia operational axis, Ucayali region, the Interior Ministry (Mininter) detailed in a press release.
On March 8 alone, 40.3 hectares distributed across 22 plots were eradicated, as well as 49 square meters of seedbeds intended for new plantations.
These actions are part of the 2026 Annual Plan for the Reduction of Illegal Coca-Growing Space, which establishes a national target of 19,000 hectares to be eradicated this year.
To date, progress represents 6.64% of the annual target following the start of operations on January 28.

Comprehensive strategy
Interior Minister Hugo Begazo underscored that these operations represent "a direct blow to drug trafficking and contribute to protecting Amazon forests and strengthening security in the country's most vulnerable areas."
Operations will continue this year in new operational axes such as Putumayo, Caballococha, Constitucion, Tingo Maria, Atalaya, and Calleria, within the framework of a comprehensive strategy that combines eradication, territorial control, and environmental protection to curb the advance of drug trafficking.
