Prime Minister Denisse Miralles on Thursday reaffirmed the government's commitment to work in coordination with the Piura Regional Government, as well as provincial and district municipalities to reduce the impact of the Coastal El Niño phenomenon in this northern region.

After participating virtually in a meeting led by Housing, Construction and Sanitation Minister Wilder Sifuentes, the Cabinet chief reiterated the Executive Branch's permanent coordination with the region’s governor and the mayors of the affected areas.

Sifuentes is currently in the field coordinating actions with local authorities in Mancora, Piura.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Defense the deployment of Army personnel, as well as with the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) for the delivery of humanitarian aid," Miralles indicated.

The Prime Minister said the Defense Ministry has sent a front loader, a dump truck, and nearly 100 soldiers to the area to support response efforts.

In that regard, she said coordination is also underway with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and the National Water Authority (ANA) to allocate more machinery to Mancora.

"Two additional dump trucks are being sent to those already operating in the area, along with two backhoes that will contribute to debris removal work," Miralles pointed out.

Likewise, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) head reported that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) is reinforcing the health response by deploying brigades equipped with nebulization systems.

These brigades will carry out fumigation and pest control actions to prevent the spread of diseases caused by standing water.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications will also carry out works to ensure traffic flow along the Sullana–Tumbes Road Corridor and at La Paz International Bridge.

"By instruction of our President, Jose Balcazar, from the first day we took office we were asked to work in coordination, and that is what we are doing," Miralles said.

"You not only rely on a coordinating minister for the region, but also the full availability of the government’s human and technical team to reduce the impact of this emergency and prepare for the coming weeks," she added.
