The Peruvian Government has banned all types of social gatherings and events, including family meetings and those taking place at homes during Christmas and New Year's holidays, according to a Supreme Decree.

Supreme Decree No. 179-2021-PCM —published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Thursday night— provides that this prohibition will be in force nationwide on December 25, 2021, and January 1, 2022.

"(…) All types of social gatherings and events are prohibited, including those that take place at homes and family visits, (in areas) under (any of) the four alert levels," the document read.

Through the same Supreme Decree, the Government has also made official the obligation to present at closed spaces the physical or virtual card proving vaccination against COVID-19. It starts today.

Moreover, Supreme Decree No. 179-2021-PCM indicates that the measure is mandatory for citizens over 18 years of age who wish to enter facilities where economic and worship activities are carried out.

"As of December 10, 2021, in the (provinces under any of the) four alert levels, citizens over 18 years of age who wish to enter facilities where economic and worship activities take place in closed spaces (...) must present their physical or virtual card which certifies that they have completed —in Peru and/or abroad— their vaccination against COVID-19," it added.
