Peruvian Interior Minister Vicente Romero received a delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany headed by Christian Klos, Director General for Public Security at the Ministry of Interior in said country, who has been on an official visit to Lima since last Saturday.

The meeting, held at the ministerial headquarters, addressed the issue of bilateral cooperation between the two governments in order to strengthen the fight against transnational organized crime, especially on issues related to illicit drug trafficking and the eradication of illegal coca crops.

Minister Vicente Romero thanked the foreign officials for their visit and highlighted the permanent willingness of the German government to collaborate on issues related to training, as well as logistical and technological support in the fight against organized crime in Peru.

"This visit is highly significant for our Government, especially in this fight against organized crime and illicit drug trafficking, which is an issue that concerns the entire world," he stressed.

In this regard, the Cabinet member stressed the invaluable support that this year Peru's Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) received from the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany, which included the donation of computer equipment and vehicles.

The minister affirmed that every effort is made, in coordination with the Peruvian National Police (PNP), to combat this scourge, which affects many nations.

The government official underlined that the aim is to enhance international cooperation to strengthen logistics and the exchange of intelligence information so as to counteract this illegal business.

Finally, Romero underscored that he seeks a prompt visit by Germany's Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser to Peru, which will contribute to further strengthening the bonds of cooperation and friendship between both countries.
