Peru is participating on May 29 and 30 in the resumption of the second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, the governing body of the
. This year's sessions will make key decisions on sustainable urbanization and human settlements.
During her participation, the diplomat highlighted our country's commitment to housing equity, climate-resilient urban planning, and inclusive development.
Similarly, she emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the need to build safe, green, and accessible cities for all, with special attention to vulnerable populations.
This year's assembly is especially important as member states will approve the new UN-Habitat Strategic Plan for 2026-2029.
The program's
Executive Director, Anaclaudia Rossbach, stated that this plan will guide the work for the next four years, setting the path ahead of the conclusion of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
That same day, the UN-Habitat Executive Directorate also presented cooperation projects the program has developed in various regions related to the reconstruction of climate-resilient housing and infrastructure.
Every four years, the Habitat Assembly brings together the 193 United Nations member states to address urgent issues impacting daily life in cities.
Topics include affordable housing, clean public spaces, climate resilience, and access to basic services.
