Former Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva Neyra died on Wednesday at the age of 61, the
"The Ministry of Economy and Finance deeply laments the passing of Carlos Augusto Oliva Neyra, former minister of Economy and Finance," the institution said in a post on the X platform.
His last position was vice chairman of the Central Reserve Bank's Board of Directors after being appointed by Congress for the 2021–2026 term.
Who was Carlos Oliva?
Oliva served as Minister of Economy and Finance from June 7, 2018, to Sept. 30, 2019, during the government of Martin Vizcarra.
He was Deputy Minister of Finance between August 1, 2011, and May 14, 2015.
Likewise, he served as Chairman of Peru's Fiscal Council from December 2020 to May 2024.
Carlos Oliva earned a degree in economics from Universidad del Pacifico (UP).
He also obtained a master's degree in economics from Georgetown University.
He worked as a consultant and country economist for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for Chile, Venezuela, and Colombia between 1992 and 2000.
