Peru: Foreign Affairs Minister leads fifth Middle East Crisis Command session

Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela led the fifth session of the Middle East Crisis Command, where the concerning situation in the conflict zone was assessed.

At that meeting, heads of diplomatic missions reported on assistance and support efforts carried out for Peruvian nationals.

During the virtual session, Minister De Zela urged heads of mission to keep communication channels open with compatriots residing in the area to provide any support required. 

He reiterated that fellow citizens should be reminded to consider relocating to safer areas.

Officials said they remain on constant alert in the event of a worsening situation.

Likewise, they noted that they are maintaining ongoing coordination with foreign affairs ministries in the region to facilitate migration procedures for Peruvians in the event of an evacuation through authorized border crossings.

Saudi Arabia and Oman

At another point, the Peruvian minister said he held phone calls with his counterparts, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi (Oman), to whom he reiterated Peru's commitment to peace and dialogue as the means to resolve conflicts.

During the conversations with both dignitaries, De Zela received information on the delicate situation unfolding in the Middle East and the possibility that events could worsen. 

Finally, the Foreign Affairs Ministry reminded citizens of the contact details for the Peruvian community in Middle Eastern countries.
